ROCHESTER, N.Y.– The D'Youville Women's Bowling team competed in the East Coast Conference Championships this past weekend in Rochester, N.Y. The Saints competed in five baker matches on day one finishing in eighth place and then went on an impressive run making it to the final three teams on Sunday before falling to Bryant University.
How it Happened
Day One
The Saints started their weekend in Rochester with five Baker format matches on Friday. The Saints went 1-4 in the matches defeating St. Thomas Aquinas College 745-720 and falling to Mercyhurst University, Adelphi University, Molloy University, and Roberts Wesleyan University. After being seeded eighth out of nine teams, the Saints played one baker format match to begin the double elimination tournament on Friday evening. The Saints were set to face off with St. Thomas Aquinas College who was seeded ninth, and D'Youville swept the best-of-five match winning the first four matches to send STAC to the elimination bracket.
Day Two
The Saints hit their stride on day two of the tournament. The Saints were schedule to face off with the #1 seed of the tournament Bryant University for their first match of the day in the double elimination bracket. The Saints won their first three games, before dropping two, and then taking the last game 177-169 to knock off the #1 seed. D'Youville kept their momentum going into their second match of the day against the #4 seed, Kutztown University. The Saints fell behind in the first game but came back strong to win the next four games in the match to defeat the Bears 4-1 and move on in the tournament without a loss.
The Saints faced #3 Mercyhurst University in their third match of the day and after winning the first two games in the match would lose the next four to suffer their first loss in the double elimination part of the tournament.
Day Three
Against all odds, the #8 D'Youville Women's Bowling Team had made it to the final day of the tournament after defeating the #1 and #4 seeds in upset fashion. The Saints were set for another matchup against Bryant University but would fall 4-0 just one game away from the Championship Mega Match for their second loss to end their season.
After finishing in third place in the ECC Championships as the #8 seed, the Saints had their strongest ending to a season in program history.
