Buffalo, NY – The D'Youville men's soccer team played their final exhibition game of the season against Buffalo State on Wednesday evening and were defeated by the Bengals due to a large second half, falling by the final score of 5-1.

Buffalo State scored the first goal of the game with 15 minutes left in the first half off of a free kick just outside the 18-yard box that rang off the post and went upper-90. After the first 45 minutes of play, the Bengals led 1-0 and didn't waste much time adding to their lead in the second half.

Just 5 minutes into the second, the Bengals scored their second of the game and then their third an additional 4 minutes later. In the 75^th minute Buff State would extend their lead 4-0 off a corner kick.

In the 80^th minute, D'Youville would break their duck, scoring their first goal of the game. Senior Nick Johnson (North Tonawanda, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) flicked a header onto fellow captain Aaron Zelko (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) who beat the keeper one-on-one for his second goal of the season. The Bengals would score with less than two minutes remaining in the game and win the game by the final of 5-1.

Johnson, Zelko and Conner Ward (San Diego, CA/Cathedral Catholic) registered the only shots for the Spartans, with all the Johnson's and Zelko's shots coming on goal. Ward played well in central midfield and Daniel Tarbell (Clarence, NY/Clarence) made several strong plays at center back.

The men will travel to Pitt.-Greensburg this weekend to play their second conference game on Saturday at 1:00pm.
