BUFFALO, N.Y. — D'Youville defeated Dist. Columbia 1-0 on Wednesday at Dobson Field. D'Youville outshot the Firebirds 12-4 and put five shots on goal while limiting the visitors to two. D'Youville scored in the second half, and its goalkeeper made two saves to complete the shutout as D'Youville improved to 3-3-3 overall and 1-0-1 in league play. This victory marked the first time D'Youville has beaten UDC in program history.
Ethan Robinson (Scarborough, Ontario / Neil McNeil) broke through for D'Youville in the second half, opening the scoring after the match had remained level into the 55th minute. Around that stretch, D'Youville also held up defensively while UDC took two shots and three corners without finding the net. D'Youville continued to generate chances after moving in front, putting together a second-half stretch with five shots and a corner but no additional finish.
D'Youville finished with a 12-4 advantage in shots and put five attempts on goal, while the Firebirds had two shots on frame. Robinson supplied three of D'Youville's shots, all on goal, and accounted for the match's scoring.
Matthew Solorio (Kansas City, MO / Oak Park) handled the chances that reached him, making two saves across 90 minutes for the shutout. The match also featured several foul-heavy stretches, with D'Youville totaling 16 fouls and three yellow cards while UDC finished with nine fouls and one yellow card.
Robinson scored the game-winning goal and put all three of his shots on frame. Solorio played all 90 minutes in goal, made two saves and recorded a shutout.
