BUFFALO, N.Y. — D'Youville lost to Molloy 2-1 on Saturday at Dobson Field. The Saints generated 16 shots to Molloy's five, including an 11-2 edge after halftime, but could not add to their first-half goal.
The Saints fell behind in the opening stretch before
Finn Savage (Wrexham, Wales / Hawarden) scored in the 12th minute to bring the match level at 1-1. With the score still even later in the half, the Saints generated three shots and a corner during an 11-minute stretch, but the match remained tied through that sequence. After Molloy moved back in front, the Saints put together several second-half pushes, including five shots and a corner in one early stretch and six shots during another nine-minute span.
The late response continued with the Saints taking four shots and two corners while trailing, including a short stretch with two corners followed by shots. The Saints finished with a 16-5 advantage in shots and put eight attempts on goal, while Molloy placed three shots on frame. Molloy's goalkeeper made six saves, and
Matthew Solorio (Kansas City, MO / Oak Park) finished with one save for the Saints. Savage scored on one of his two shots, while
Shawn Richardson (Gothenburg, Sweden / Rossall) added five shots and
Ewan Brodie (Jersey, United Kingdom / Hautlieu) had three as the Saints continued to create attempts across the match.
The Saints answered Molloy's seventh-minute goal when Savage scored at 11:57 to tie the first half at 1-1. The Saints followed with a corner and three shots from 18:09 to 28:50, with Richardson and Brodie forcing saves. Solorio saved a 32:46 attempt, and the half ended tied 1-1.
Molloy scored at 50:20 to put the Saints behind 2-1 early in the second half. The Saints responded with six shots from 53:29 to 62:51, including saved attempts by
Konrad Homberg (Neuss, Germany / Alexander von Humboldt) and Brodie, and later earned two corners while pushing in the final 15 minutes. The Saints could not find the equalizer, and the match ended 2-1.
Savage scored an unassisted goal and finished with two shots. Richardson led the Saints with five shots, including two on goal. Brodie added three shots and put two on frame.
