BUFFALO, N.Y. — D'Youville defeated Pitt.-Johnstown 2-0 on Saturday. After a scoreless first half, D'Youville scored twice after halftime and finished with a 23-3 advantage in shots.
D'Youville held a 23-3 shot advantage and put 13 attempts on goal, while UPJ's goalkeeper finished with 11 saves. D'Youville also limited the Mountain Cats to three shots, with
Matthew Solorio (Kansas City, MO / Oak Park) saving all three for the shutout.
Ewan Brodie (Jersey, United Kingdom / Hautlieu) scored the game-winning first goal off
Dylan Danch's (Erie, Pa. / Cathedral Preparatory) assist, and
Ethan Robinson (Scarborough, Ontario / Neil McNeil) added a late goal from
Finn Savage (Wrexham, Wales / Hawarden).
D'Youville generated the first half's main attacking volume, taking 14 shots and putting seven on goal while holding UPJ to one shot. From the 26th minute through the 40th, D'Youville had seven attempts and a corner kick, including two shots from
Max Johnson (Erie, Pa. / Cathedral Preparatory), but could not turn the pressure into a goal. Solorio saved the Mountain Cats' lone shot, and the first half ended scoreless.
Brodie put D'Youville ahead at 49:47 off Danch's assist, giving the home side a 1-0 lead early in the second half. D'Youville kept the pressure on with four shots and a corner kick from 60:51 to 70:48, including saved attempts by Robinson,
Konrad Homberg (Neuss, Germany / Alexander von Humboldt Gymnasium) and Danch. Robinson added a Savage-assisted goal at 83:48, and D'Youville finished off the 2-0 win.
Brodie scored on his lone shot and was credited with the game-winning goal. Robinson added a goal while putting three of his four shots on goal. Danch recorded an assist and led D'Youville with five shots, including three on goal. Solorio played all 90 minutes in goal, made three saves and finished with a shutout.
