Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. – The D'Youville Men's Lacrosse team suffered a tough 15-6 loss to the ranked Mercy University Mavericks on Saturday afternoon at home.
The Mav's got off to a fast start taking the 1-0 lead after just 35 seconds of play. The Saints settled in as gameplay continued and
Jonathan Abbarno (Chargin Falls, OH / Kenston) tied the game at one just five minutes into play. Mercy regained the advantage netting the next three goals, but
Stefano Evan (Vestal, N.Y. / Vestal) put a stop to the run with a goal of his own to leave the Saints trailing by two. D'Youville's offense stepped up only allowing one more goal to the Maverick's in the first quarter leaving Mercy ahead 5-2.
The Saints offense came out strong to start the second quarter as D'Youville quickly got two shots off but were unable to close on the Mavericks lead. Mercy scored their sixth goal of the game a little over three minutes into the quarter. Mercy's offense tallied another to bring the score to 7-2 later in the quarter. D'Youville's offense kept at it and with a little over four minutes left in the quarter,
Obrigh Tallchief (Irving, N.Y. / Lake Shore) scored the third goal of the game for the Saints. Before the end of the half,
Stefano Evans and
Obrigh Tallchief would each net one more for the Saints while Mercy would tack on two more of their own to bring the score to 9-5 at halftime.
Jonathan Abbarno was the first to score coming out of the half to leave the Saints trailing by three at 9-6, but the Mavericks again had an answer by scoring the next two goals to take them to an 11-6 lead as the game headed into the fourth quarter.
The Mavericks netted their twelfth goal of the game with just over 10 minutes to play to lead the Saints 12-6. D'Youville saw a few more chances but was unable to find the back of the net. Mercy added three more goals before the clock ran out to take the game 15-6.

Jonathan Abbarno, and
Obrigh Tallchief all scored tow goals to lead the Saints offense while both Tallchief and Evan recorded one assist each to total three points.
Christian Cliff (Toronto, Ontario, Lakeshore Collegiate Institute),
Logan Schwartz (Depew, N.Y. / Depew), and
Hayden Goldthorp (Oro-Medonte, Ontario / St. Joes) led the Saints defense with two caused turnovers while
Casey Berns (Webster, N.Y. / Webster Schroeder) went the distance in goal recording another 15 saves.

The Saints are back to ECC play on March 29, 2025, where they will face off against a ranked opponent in Molloy University. D'Youville will travel to Rockville Centre, NY for the game which is set to begin at 12:00 PM.
