DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. — D'Youville men's lacrosse fell to Mercy University 15-8 in a conference matchup on Saturday at Mercy Field.
The game began with the Mavs taking an early lead, scoring the first goal at 14:31. D'Youville responded with persistent offensive efforts, but the Mavs extended their lead with goals at 11:39 and at 7:43. D'Youville's
Brady Ruffalo found the net at 5:31, assisted by
Raymond Cortes, narrowing the gap to 3-1. However, the Mavs added another goal with 14 seconds left in the quarter, closing the first quarter with a 4-1 advantage over D'Youville.
Carsyn Kent was pivotal for D'Youville in the second quarter, scoring two goals, including one at 13:45 and another at 10:02 during a man-up opportunity, assisted by
Noah Suchyna.
Jack Devlin added to the effort with a goal assisted by
Obrigh Tallchief at 6:11. Despite these efforts, the Mavs maintained control with several goals of their own, widening the lead. The quarter concluded with a scoreline favoring the Mavs, 11-4.
D'Youville's
Graham Sholett scored at 12:06 in the third quarter, narrowing the gap after the Mavs had initially extended their lead with a goal by Jack Agres. Despite D'Youville's efforts, including multiple saves by
Casey Berns, the Mavs scored in the final minute, solidifying their advantage. The quarter concluded with the Mavs leading 13-5.
D'Youville started the fourth quarter with a crucial momentum shift, capitalizing on a turnover caused by
Logan Schwartz. Suchyna scored at 13:48, narrowing the gap. Despite the Mavs' attempts to maintain control, including a goal at 9:55, D'Youville responded with a goal by Kent assisted by Suchyna at 7:45. Late in the quarter,
Luciano Gonzalez scored a man-up goal with an assist from Kent at 00:12, closing the quarter strongly for D'Youville. However, the game concluded with the Mavs securing a 15-8 victory.
Berns made a strong showing in goal with 18 saves despite facing 43 shots. Kent led the scoring with three goals, including a man-up goal, and added an assist. Suchyna contributed offensively with one goal and two assists, adding depth to the attack. Schwartz was effective on defense, collecting six ground balls and forcing three turnovers.
