ROCHESTER, N.Y. – It was a historic day for the D'Youville University women's cross country team this morning as
Lainie Smith (Lancaster, N.Y.) broke the school record for the fastest 5K race at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational hosted by Roberts Wesleyan University.
Smith placed sixth out of 137 runners with a time of 18:50.6, just squeaking by Anya Bogdanets' time of 18:51.0 set back in 2010.
Lydia Smith (Williamsport, Pa.) was close behind, finishing 12th with a time of 19:00.1 which is also a new season high.
Raechel Zielinski (Hamburg, N.Y.) clocked in with a time of 19:24.9 to take 23rd place.
Lily Schulz (Lockport, N.Y.) had a new season best with a time of 20:21.2 for 50th place while
Sevilla Groebe (Gilbert, Ariz.) had a time of 20:46.8, also a new season high.
Lexie Hillman (Alden, N.Y.) and
Barb Kunz also posted new season bests with time of 21:17.0 and 21:40.7, respectively.
As a team, the Saints placed fifth out of 13 teams with a new team record time of 1:38:23.6.
DYU will be back in action on Saturday, October 14th, when they race in the Canisus Alumni Classic at 12 p.m.
