BUFFALO – There is a new home for D'Youville University baseball come the 2024 season with the announcement of an agreement to play at Sal Maglie Stadium at Hyde Park in nearby Niagara Falls.
"We've been working on finding a home for our baseball program for many years," Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Ona Halladay said. "This partnership with Sal Maglie allows us an opportunity to not just call it home, but we can play throughout the springs here in Buffalo. It's an amazing facility to allow our coaches to recruit to for our student-athletes to play on. This stadium allows out student-athletes to call it home and have pride in it."
"We are extremely excited to call Sal Maglie our home field moving forward," baseball head coach
Kyle McLain said. "We want to thank Dr. Clemo, Ona Halladay, Rebecca Capinera, and Bill Morris for their work to get this agreement. Sal Maglie is a state-of-the-art facility with brand new upgrades, including a turf surface, that will give our players a first-class experience. Our new home complex will assist our program in reaching our goal of becoming a perennial regional contender at the Division II level."
Sal Maglie Stadium was first built in 1939 with the original name being Hyde Park Stadium. Originally designed for football, the 4,000-seat stadium was adapted for baseball in the 1950s and fully reconstructed for baseball in 1999. During 1983, the stadium was renamed for Niagara Falls native, former major league player and Niagara University alum, Sal Maglie.
Over the years, Sal Maglie Stadium was home to the Buffalo Bisons for the 1967 and 1968 seasons. From 1970-79, the stadium was home to the Niagara Falls Pirates, the Niagara Falls Sox from 1982-85, the Niagara Falls Tigers in 1985, and the Niagara Falls Rapids from 1989-93, all of whom were affiliated with the New York-Penn League. During the 1995 season, Sal Maglie Stadium was home to the Niagara Falls Mallards of the North Atlantic League.
Sal Maglie Stadium has been the home of the Niagara Power, who compete in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League, during the summer of 2007.
