Saints' ECC Tournament Run Ends in 7-5 Loss to Mercy

UNIONDALE, N.Y. — D'Youville saw its 2026 season come to a close Friday afternoon, falling to second-seeded Mercy 7-5 in a tightly contested elimination game at Mitchel Field.

The Saints finished the season with a 20-31 overall record after battling through the elimination bracket and nearly erasing a late deficit against the Mavericks. D'Youville hit a pair of home runs and carried a sixth-inning lead before Mercy answered late to advance.

After opening the day with a 17-run offensive outburst to stay alive in the tournament, the Saints continued to swing the bats early in game two. Billy Morris worked a leadoff walk in the first inning before Colby Wilson launched a two-run homer to right field, giving D'Youville a quick 2-0 advantage.

Mercy answered in the third inning, tying the game on a two-run single by Matthew Hesselbirg.

The Mavericks moved in front in the fifth, using a double steal and back-to-back RBI's to take a 4-2 lead heading into the sixth.

D'Youville responded with another big swing in the top of the sixth. Morris again ignited the rally with a walk and later scored on an RBI single from Colby Wilson. Garett Wilson followed with a two-run home run, pushing the Saints back in front, 5-4.

Mercy answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning, scoring on a wild pitch to even the game at 5-5.

The game remained tied until the ninth inning, when Mercy plated two runs to regain the lead. An RBI double from Zach Ashline brought home the go-ahead run before an error allowed an insurance run to score. D'Youville was unable to rally in their final at-bat.

Colby Wilson paced the Saints offensively, finishing 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Garett Wilson also recorded two hits, including a two-run homer.

On the mound, Ty Graczyk got the start and provided five innings, striking out five batters. Greg Orcutt tossed 3.1 innings before Morris closed out the game for the Saints.

D'Youville closes the year after an ECC Tournament run that featured wins over top conference competition and an explosive offensive performance on Friday, totaling 22 runs across the day's two postseason contests.
