Saints Stave Off Elimination Against No. 3 St. Thomas Aquinas As Offense Explodes for 17 Runs

UNIONDALE, N.Y. — D'Youville University baseball (19-31) secured a decisive 17–7 victory over No. 3 St. Thomas Aquinas College (26-23) at Mitchel Field on Friday in an elimination game of the 2026 ECC Baseball Championship Tournament.

D'Youville started strong with Jacob Cooper doubling to left center. Scoring began on a throwing error, with Cooper scoring unearned. Blaise Kolbert and Jake Hollins added RBI hits to bring the score to 3–0. The opposing team responded with a sacrifice fly, making it 3–1 at the end of the first inning.

In the fourth inning, Michael Huff II walked and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Billy Morris. A Colby Wilson single brought in two more runs, extending D'Youville's lead to 6–3.

The sixth inning saw D'Youville widen its lead further. Cooper scored on a single by Wilson. Kolbert and Hollins added runs, with Hollins scoring on an error for a total of four runs in the inning. St. Thomas Aquinas countered with a two-run homer, closing the inning at 10–5.

D'Youville added another run in the seventh when Anthony Consiglio scored on a wild pitch. The score was 11–5 heading into the eighth inning.

In the eighth, Kolbert tripled and scored on a wild pitch. Consiglio hit a two-run homer, and Wilson's double brought in another run, making it 16–5.

D'Youville finished the ninth inning with an RBI walk by Wilson. The Spartans managed two runs in their half, concluding the game at 17–7 in favor of D'Youville.

Wilson led with three hits and five RBIs, contributing significantly to the team's offensive output. Kolbert scored three runs, collected three hits, and stole two bases, showcasing his ability to impact the game in multiple areas. Consiglio added three hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs, further bolstering the team's scoring efforts. Jake Ferris recorded three hits, scored twice, and stole three bases, demonstrating his effectiveness on the bases.

Jakob Denall pitched six innings, allowing five earned runs on eight hits, while striking out 10 batters and issuing three walks. He threw 100 pitches, with 62 being strikes.. Mihir Manerikar came in as a reliever and pitched three innings, conceding two earned runs on four hits. Manerikar struck out three batters, throwing 55 pitches with 33 strikes, and successfully earned a save.

The Saints will look to keep their season alive as they await the loser between No. 1 Molloy University vs. No. 2 Mercy University. That game will be played today at approximately 4 p.m.
