Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tristan Engelhardt scored a career-high six goals and Steve Lucas recorded a career-high five assists at UDC Saturday afternoon, but the Saints ultimately fell 8-16 on the road in the final game of their inaugural season. Reece Eck finished the day with 16 saves, while Jordan Brown went 11-26 one faceoffs and seven ground balls.
First Quarter Notables
- The Firebirds opened the scoring at 12:38 as Joseph Cote was able to put one past Reece Eck.
- Engelhardt and Lucas connected at 11:55 as Lucas sent a perfectly-timed pass to Engelhardt and he was able to sneak it past the UDC keeper and even the score.
- Daniel Orebiyi put the Firebirds up one less than a minute later, but Nick Sholett was able to even the score again at 9:23.
- UDC added two more goals at 5:51 and 1:04 to take a 4-2 lead going into the first break.
Second Quarter Notables
- Engelhardt and Lucas connected once again as the Saints struck first in the second quarter to put the Saints within one early in the second quarter.
- UDC tacked on two more goals before Engelhardt and Lucas connected at 6:56 to keep the game within reach at 4-6.
- The Firebirds stayed one step ahead of the Saints, added another two goals to extend their lead to 9-4.
- Engelhardt scored off a pass from Sholett at 2:57, putting the Saints within four.
- Jeffery Vo from UDC added an insurance goal to put the Firebirds up 10-5 going into the intermission.
Third Quarter Notables
- The Firebirds came out of the break hot, scoring two quick goals and extending their lead to 12-5.
- Corbin Montreal and Suman Ramlall connected at 8:34 as Montreal put one past the UDC goalie to bring the Saints within six.
- Engelhardt and Lucas connected two more times at 8:009 and 7:48 to edge closer to the Firebirds.
- UDC put up three unanswered goals to close out the quarter.
Fourth Quarter Notables
- Eric Boco from UDC added one more goal in the fourth to secure the 16-8 win for the Firebirds.
