STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The D'Youville men's basketball team returned to the court Saturday afternoon, taking on New Haven from the campus of the College of Staten Island. The Saints dropped the non-conference game, 101-52, and falling to 0-2 on the young season.
D'Youville struggled to get things going offensively as they were held to 19 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes. After freshman guard Nelson St. Louis got the Saints on the board with a three-ball for the second straight game, the Chargers responded with an 18-0 run to take a commanding 20-3 lead in the first nine minutes of the game. The Saints would enter the locker room at halftime trailing by 30 at 52-22.
D'Youville improved from the field in the second half, shooting 40 percent but couldn't cut into the New Haven lead after only nailing one of their eight attempts from beyond the arc. Junior forward Garrian Wade scored all ten of his points in the second half as he hit on four of his five shots, including D'Youville's lone three-pointer.
Freshman forward Jared Sullivan paced the Saints in scoring with 12 points as senior Grant Beyer added 11 points off of the bench … D'Youville's starters struggled to produce Saturday, accounting for a combined 17 points … The Chargers dominated on the boards, grabbing 51 rebounds to D'Youville's 29.
The Saints will open their home schedule on Thursday, Nov. 18 when they play host to Bryant & Stratton-Buffalo. Tip-off from the College Center Gym is scheduled for 6 p.m.
