Buffalo, NY – The D'Youville women's lacrosse team closed out their 2019 season with their third consecutive conference win as they defeated the Penn State-Abington Lions on Saturday afternoon by the final score of 19-4.

D'Youville dominated the entire game against the Lions. Paige Robinson (Kenmore, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy) opened up the scoring for the women nearly four minutes into the game. Despite the strong play from Abington on the defensive end, the Spartans continued to pressure until Tiffany Cristofanelli (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) put the Spartans up 2-0.

Marissa Markott (Sanborn, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) then added two with Cristofanelli and Marina Campbell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Catholic) each scoring as the team went up 7-0. Abington scored their first of the game with 15:12 to go in the half. D'Youville would then turn it on as they outscored the Lions 6-1 through the remainder of the first to lead 13-2.

Riley Riedel (Marilla, NY/Iroquois) scored the first goal of the second half to put D'Youville up 14-2. Markott, Isabella Lucania (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder), Margaret Merigold (Tonawanda, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy), and Sierra Brooks (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) each scored in the second as the Spartans went on to win the game 19-4.

Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) made 11 saves on 15 shots in the victory Saturday. Campbell led the team with five ground balls, with Riedel adding four. Amber Lundrigan (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) and Brooks tallied three each.

Campbell and Markott led the way with four goals in each while Cristofanelli scored three with two assists. Clarice Byrne (Boston, NY/Hamburg) added a goal with Lucania scoring a pair and three other players scoring one each.

The defense of Julie Fleming (Tonawanda, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy), Alison Gareis (Buffalo, NY/Buffalo Seminary), Julia Prychodko (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora), and Amanda Waliszewski (Sanborn, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) played extremely well in the game. Dominique Riforgiato (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) and Rachel McMahan (Grand Island, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) were tough on defense as well. Rebecca Clemons (Holland, NY/Holland) and Olivia Manzella (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) also saw extended playing time.
