Saints Drop Hard-Fought Contest to the Golden Knights in Overtime

ERIE, Pa. — D'Youville (2-4) narrowly fell to Gannon University (3-4) in a closely contested match, with a final score of 10–11 at McConnell Family Stadium. The Saints' effort included four player-up goals, highlighting their ability to capitalize on player-up situations.

The game began with the Saints taking early control, as Madison Handley scored at 13:57, marking her 18th goal of the season. Lauren Parker was pivotal in maintaining possession with successful draw controls. Despite several attempts, including a shot by Madison Buck that was saved and another by Danielle Gephart that hit the post, D'Youville couldn't extend its lead.

Gannon responded effectively, leveling the score with a goal by Charlie Hunter at 8:11. The Golden Knights then took the lead and widened the gap with subsequent goals, finishing the quarter ahead. The first quarter concluded with Gannon leading the Saints 3–1.

D'Youville seized momentum in the second quarter, beginning with a player-up goal at 14:13 by Danielle Gephart, marking her 10th of the season. Despite Gannon's response with goals from Megan Lang, Rayla Smith, and Charlie Hunter, D'Youville intensified its efforts, with a goal from Madison Buck reducing the deficit.

Later, Gephart found the net again at 3:36 with an assist from Lily Buckley, followed by another player-up goal assisted by Ireland Costigan at 0:40. Handley capped off the quarter with a player-up goal, thanks to Buckley's second assist, leveling the score at 6–6 by the end of the quarter.

Buckley scored her third goal of the season at 9:46 in the third quarter, assisted by Gephart, leveling the score at 7–7. Despite several attempts, including a shot by Handley, D'Youville struggled to capitalize on their opportunities. Gannon responded with goals by Isabella Veltre and Rayla Smith, pushing the score to 9–7. The quarter concluded with Gannon in the lead, and the game ended with a final score of Gannon 9, D'Youville 7.

D'Youville mounted a strong comeback in the fourth quarter, beginning with Breelynn Lalonde securing a draw control soon after Gannon's early goal by Veltre. Despite several early attempts, the Saints found success with Gephart scoring a free position goal at 6:13, narrowing the gap.

This momentum continued with Parker converting another free position opportunity at 4:13, followed by a player-up goal assisted by Buckley at 3:23, leveling the score. D'Youville's defensive plays and effective draw controls helped maintain pressure on Gannon, ensuring the game concluded with a 10–10 tie.

In overtime, Parker secured a draw control, setting the stage for a potential momentum shift. However, a turnover by Buck at a critical moment allowed Gannon to regain possession. Gannon capitalized on this opportunity with Charlie Hunter scoring a goal at 3:30, increasing its lead. The period concluded with Gannon ahead 11–10, and this marked the end of the game with Gannon securing the win.

Handley led the attack with two goals, including one player-up goal, and took a total of 11 shots. Gephart contributed significantly by scoring four goals and adding an assist, with two of her goals coming from free position shots. Parker added to the scoring with two goals, one of which was a player-up goal. Buckley displayed versatility by scoring a goal and providing three assists, effectively setting up her teammates.
