FROSTBURG, Md. (AP) — D'Youville wrapped up its regular season with an impressive performance at the Bobcat Open hosted by Frostburg State, finishing second overall in the team standings and collecting several podium finishes across multiple weight classes.
Shaelie Young paced the Saints with a second-place finish at 180 pounds, going 3–1 on the day. Her run included a hard-fought 2–1 decision victory in the semifinals that secured her spot in the championship bout. At 207 pounds, Eliza Stricklin and Mackenzie LaForest both contributed key points for D'Youville, placing second and third, respectively. Stricklin advanced to the finals in dominant fashion, earning an 8–1 technical fall in just 1:31 during her semifinal match.
Madison Wellen turned in a solid effort at 131 pounds, finishing third, while Alexis Brua also reached the podium with a third-place showing at 124 pounds. Their performances helped solidify the Saints' strong overall team result.
The Bobcat Open marked the final competition of the regular season for D'Youville, which was forced to cancel its most recent scheduled tri-dual due to inclement weather. Even with the disruption, the Saints closed the regular season on a positive note and now shift their focus to postseason competition.
D'Youville will next compete at the regional championships, scheduled for Feb. 21–22 in Elmira, N.Y., as the Saints look to carry their momentum into the next phase of the season.
