Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – The D'Youville Women's Lacrosse team was setback on Saturday afternoon after falling 16-11 to the Molloy University Lions.
Madison Buck (Rochester, N.Y. / Churchville Chili) led the Saints offense with three goals and an assist while
Madison Handley (Lancaster, N.Y. / Lancaster),
Danielle Gephart (Eden, N.Y. / Eden), and
Sydney Gordon (Hamburg, N.Y. / Hamburg) each recorded two goals.
Brinn Stworzydlak (Hamburg, N.Y. / Frontier) had a strong showing in goal recording 16 saves.
How it Happened
It was a defensive battle to start the game as it remained scoreless for the first five and a half minutes of play. Molloy netted the first goal and added another with five minutes remaining in the first quarter. The Lions would add two more goals before
Sydney Gordon would find the back of the net to put the Saints on the board with just over a minute to play. The Lions got two more shots off before the end of the quarter but were unable to score sending the game to the second quarter with the Lions in the lead 4-1.
The Lions moved ahead 6-1 to begin the second quarter, but a goal from
Madison Handley stopped the Lions momentum as the score moved to 6-2. The Saints chance on offense was quick as the Lions regained control scoring six in-a-row to move ahead 12-2 going into halftime.
Madison Buck got the Saints offense going to begin the third quarter as she scored her first goal of the day to bring the score to 12-3.
Danielle Gephart followed suit as she netted her first of the game with just over nine minutes left in the third quarter to bring the score to 12-4. Strong offense for D'Youville continued as
Madison Handley scored her second of the day next to bring the Saints within seven with just under six minutes to play in the third. The offensive run continued for the Saints as Gephart netted her second to bring the score to 12-6. Molloy struck back scoring two more to extend their lead to 14-6 before the end of the third quarter.
The Lions started the scoring first in the fourth quarter, but
Madison McGinn (Owatonna, Minn. / Owatonna) answered right back scoring her first of the day to keep the Lions form pulling ahead even more with the score at 15-7.
Madison Buck then notched her second while
Jillian Bernas (Cheektowaga N.Y. / St. Mary's) scored her first of the day to bring the score to 15-9. The Lions got one back, but
Sydney Gordon had an answer scoring her second of the day to keep D'Youville within six. Buck would net her third of the day before time ran out and despite a strong comeback from the Saints, the Lions would take the 16-11 win.
