Box Score SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Opening up the 2025 season, the D'Youville University women's lacrosse team fell to Slippery Rock University by a score of 16-7 Saturday afternoon.
The Saints (0-1) were led offensively by
Madison Buck (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville Chili) with four points (1 goal, 3 assists) while
Sydney Gordon (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) added three goals.
Lauren Parker (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) led the team on the defensive end, causing five turnovers while grabbing three groundballs.
DYU found themselves down early, trailing 4-1. Gordon got D'Youville on the board with the woman-up goal with 2:14 left in the first quarter.
Emily Fischer (Grand Island, N.Y./Mount St. Mary Academy) made it a 4-2 game after the first quarter with a woman-up goal.
In the second quarter, The Rock score three-straight goals before Gordon scored her second to make ti 7-3 with 1:37 left until halftime. The Saints defense held strong in the final minutes to keep it a four-goal game.
Coming out of the break, Slippery Rock went on a scoring run by adding four more goals to make it 11-3. Buck halted their scoring run with a goal with 7:38 left in the frame. The Rock quickly took back the momentum, scoring three more goals to make it 14-4 after three quarters of action.
In the fourth, Gordon added her third goal followed by a goal from
Madison Handley (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) off the dish from Buck to make it 14-6. Slippery Rock scored two more, but the Saints tacked on one more goal as
Madison McGinn (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna) scored her first collegiate goal.
Brinn Stworzydlak (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) went the distance in net, making 15 saves.
The Saints will be back in action on Tuesday, March 11th, as they travel to No. 17 Bentley University for a 2 p.m. game.
