Box Score 2 SPARKILL, N.Y. – The D'Youville University Baseball team finished their second leg of a four-game series against St. Thomas Aquinas College on Monday afternoon. The Saints were defeated in both games, losing 13-4 in game one and 4-1 in game two.
Game One – D'Youville University 4 at St. Thomas Aquinas 13
The Saints took the earl lead plating one run in the top of the first.
Alex Dzimian (Lakeview, N.Y. / St. Francis) was hit by a pitch to begin the game. A single from
Jake Hollins (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park) moved him to second and
Billy Morris (Lancaster, N.Y. / Lancaster) flied out to right field allowing Dzimian to tag and reach third.
Alec Boucher (Essex, Ontario / St Thomas of Villanova) came up with the big single up the middle to score Dzimian and put the Saints on the board.
The Spartans got one back in the bottom of the inning to tie it and added two more in the bottom of the third to bring the score to 3-1 in STAC's favor. D'Youville worked their way back in the top of the fifth after Dzimian knocked in a run off a single to right field and Hollins followed behind with a single to score Dzimian and tie the game at three. The Saints weren't done yet and with bases loaded,
Jon Simpson (Grand Island, N.Y. / Grand Island) drew a walk to give the Saints the 4-3 lead.
The Spartans fought back plating seven runs in the top of the seventh along with adding three more in the bottom of the eighth to retake the lead and bring the score to 13-4. The Saints were unable to make a comeback and the Spartans took the first game of the day 13-4.
Game Two – D'Youville University 1 at St. Thomas Aquinas College 4
Game two was a battle with the pitchers in control as neither team could manage to cross a run for the first five innings.
Alex Dzimian was in control on the mound for the Saints throwing the first five shutout innings while only allowing three hits and striking out three. The Spartans finally struck in the bottom of the sixth scoring four runs before the Saints could get out of the inning.
The Saints got one back in the top of the seventh after
Jeremy Glinski (Sloan, N.Y. / Bishop-Timon St. Jude) led off with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Hunter Nowak (Hamburg, N.Y. / St. Francis) put the ball in play and scored Glinski before the end of the inning, but the damage had been done and the Spartans would take game two 4-1.
