Baseball Heads Back Down South for Five Game Set

BUFFALO – The D'Youville University baseball team heads back down south to Cary, North Carolina for a set of games against Dominican University (N.Y.), Saint Anselm College, and The College of Saint Rose this weekend.

Last Time Out
The Saints went 2-1 last weekend in Cary with a pair of wins against Gannon University and a loss to Concord University. In their 5-2 game one win over Gannon, Chris Auclair (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) threw five innings, only giving up one run and striking out eight batters. Jon Simpson (Grand Island, N.Y.) continued to swing a hot bat, getting the Saints on the board in the bottom of the first with an RBI double. Jeremy Glinski (Sloan, N.Y.) continued his hot start to the season with a three-run home run in the third inning to put them up 4-0. In the fifth, Simpson ripped another double to bring in the Saints' fifth run. Sam Worthen (Guelph, Ontario) notched his second save of the year, throwing 1.2 shutout innings. In game two, Billy Morris (Lancaster, N.Y.) brought in DYU's first run with a single to third base. In the fifth, Simpson hit his fifth home run of the season, a laser over the left field fence to make it 3-0. Gannon scored four unanswered to take a 4-3 lead heading into the final frame. Morris ripped a double over the center fielder's head to put DYU in front 5-4. Blaise Kolbert (Lancaster, N.Y.) finished off the Golden Knights with two scoreless innings to secure the victory.
