Box Score BUFFALO, NY — The D'Youville University baseball team trailed 8-3 to the Mercy College Mavericks after 5 ½ innings of play but the Saints used a Jeremy Glinski 2-Run jack to tie it at 8-8 in the seventh before a three-spot in the eighth completed the 11-8 comeback win for D'Youville on Thursday evening.
Game One: DYU 11, MER 8
- MER got on the board first off a two-out, 2-run home run to left field in the top of the first.
- Billy Morris' double to left plated Hunter Nowak and Ethan Hammond to tie it at 2-2 before Jon Simpson's sacrifice fly gave DYU a 3-2 advantage after the first.
- MER responded with a single and a pair of productive outs in the second to hang a three-spot on the board to retake the lead, 5-2.
- MER added another run with an RBI groundout in the fourth before another 2-Run blast to left in the fifth opened up an 8-3 margin.
- A Hammond RBI single followed by a Morris RBI double allowed the Saints to match the Mavericks' two-spot in the top half of the inning to trim the deficit back to three, 8-5.
- Caden Strobel's one-out double down the left field line brought Craig Oliver around to score to cut the margin to two, 8-6.
- After a Morris single in the seventh, Glinski's 100th career hit was a big one as his line-drive home run to left knotted the game at 8-8.
- Samuel Worthen came in with two outs and the go-ahead run on third in the eighth but got the MER third basemen to pop out foul to Morris to end the threat.
- John Rogowski, Jr. lead off the ninth with a pinch-hit single before Strobel sacrificed the pinch runner Dillon Crook over to second with one out.
- After a Boucher single put runners on the corners, Nowak's single with eyes through the left side gave DYU their first lead since the first inning.
- Hammond would load the bases with his third hit of the day before Morris' RBI fielder's choice turned into another run as MER committed a throwing error on the double play turn attempt to give DYU some breathing room at 11-8.
- Worthen stayed in for the ninth and worked around a pair of two-out singles to earn his second win of the season.
