Box Score ERIE, PA- The D'Youville University women's lacrosse team went up against the Lakers of Mercyhurst University dropping, 20-14 from Saxon Stadium.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
FIRST QUARTER
- Newlin got the Saints out in front early with her scoring the first goal but was responded by a Laker goal that tied things up at 9:06, 1-1.
- At 6:02 MU broke the second tie of the quarter with a goal that gave them the lead, 3-2.
- The Saints were outscored from there on, 2-1 with the Pioneers on top, 5-4.
SECOND QUARTER
- Bernas utilized the uneven situation as she buried one into the back of the net, 6-5.
- With 2:17 remaining after Newlin's goal score the Lakers produced two more that gave them the lead going into the half, 11-9.
- The Saints out ground balled the Lakers, 7-4.
THIRD QUARTER
- MU took complete control of the quarter not allowing DYU to score for its entirety.
- The Lakers over the course of that time scored five goals, 16-9.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Gephart's goal at 8:11 brought the Saints within six goals, 18-12.
- In the final minute of play the scoring efforts by the Saints were finished off by Handley on two back-to-back goals that weren't enough to secure the win, 20-14.
- This quarter was good for the Saints as they were able to outscore the Lakers, 5-4.
