Simpson Homers Twice as Saints Split

LEWISTON, N.Y. — The D'Youville University baseball team went head-to-head with St. Thomas Aquinas College at Bobo Field in a doubleheader. The Sain fell to the Spartans in the first game of the day 9-8, but took the win in the second game 7-5.

GAME ONE

How it Happened

DYU got the first say in the bottom of the first when Jeremy Glinski singled and advanced to second on a throwing error by the third baseman, pushing Ethan Hammond home. (1-0)
Freshman, Jon Simpson, homered in the bottom of the second, driving in Craig Oliver to make it a 3-1 game.
STAC brought in four in the fifth before Alec Boucher singled to center, bringing in Hammond for another run, STAC 5-4.In the top half of the sixth, the Spartans tacked on four, making it a 9-4 game. The Saints tried to catch up quickly as Glinski singled once again, bringing in Billy Morris.
Morris made things interesting in the eighth as he launched a 3-Run HR to left center to pull DYU within one, 9-8.
Unfortunately the Saints would go down in order in the ninth as they could not complete the comeback attempt.

GAME TWO

How it Happened

Morris' sacrifice fly to left put the Saints on the board in the first as Nowak scored.
In the top half of the second, the Spartans responsed with two via an RBI single and a bases loaded walk to go ahead 2-1.
Simpson's second blast on the day put DYU back ahead in the fourth as he launched an up and in fastball inside the left field foul pole, DYU 3-2.
STAC used a pair of 2-out hits in the seventh and eighth to take a 4-3 lead.
The Saints used some 2-out magic of their own in th eighth as Dillon Crook's single to left and Morris' line drive to right each plated two as DYU held a 7-4 advantage heading to the ninth.
A leadoff walk came around to score in the ninth but STAC's catcher flew out to left with runners on first and second to end it as DYU salvaged game four of the series, 7-5
