BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Saints host Seton Hill in their 2022 home opener on Sunday, Aug. 28. Kickoff is set to begin at noon at Dobson Field.
SCOUTING SETON HILL
Seton Hill is coming off a 2-0 win over West Liberty University. The Griffins took an early 1-0 lead, and added their final game late in the second half to secure the season-opening victory. Madison Carr tapped in a Jessica Molitoris cross at the far post to put Seton Hill up 1-0 just six minutes into the game. Corynna Rotoli added the final goal of the game with just over 15 minutes to play, taking advantage of a mistake by the Hiltopper keeper.
OPENING XI
- The Saints are coming off a 0-4 loss to Malone Thursday night. Eleonora Cecchini paced the Saints offensively against the Pioneers, registering two shots, putting one on frame.
- Head coach Abby Pearson is beginning her second season at the helm of the D'Youville women's soccer program, joining the Saints in July 2021. She came to DYU from St. Bonaventure University where she served as the associate head coach.
- The Saints are welcoming back two goalkeepers to the 2022 squad. Junior Cierra Barber saw just under 66 minutes between the pipes last season, recording two saves. Sophomore Camdyn Cross appeared in one game last season.
- Sophomore Jillian Bernas rejoins the Saints this season. Bernas was second on the team last year in goals (five) and points (13). She was credited with three assists.
- Junior Lauren Zwolenkiewicz appeared in 17 games last season for the Saints, scoring four goals and recording one assist.
- Senior Jordan Pachla was outstanding on the pitch for the Saints in 2021, starting in all 17 games at forward. She was credited with a team-high six assists while puttig 18 shots on target.
- Graduate transfer, Reaghan Duval made her Saints debut against Malone. The Waxhaw, N.C. native recorded one save in the 90-minute affair.
- The Saints are looking at a solid defensive line. Backed by veteran blood, D'Youville kept Malone to seven shots - five on frame - Thursday night.
- Three Saints earned USCAA All-America honors last season. Returning from the group is Maggie Leads who led the team with seven goals. She was also credited with 35 total shots, finishing the season with a .514 shot-on-goal percentage.
- Pearson is welcoming 12 incoming student-athletes to the squad this year, including transfers Tsianna Barnwell and Duval. Barnwell joins the Saints after a four-year stint at NCAA Division I St. Bonaventure.
- Joining Pearson on the sidelines are Kyle Cunningham, Corey Nash, Marina Cunningham, and Hannah Gallivan.
