Soccer Closes Out Regular Season with Loss to #15 Mercy University

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Mercy College defeated D'Youville University 6-2 on Saturday at Dobson Field. D'Youville managed to find the back of the net twice, with both goals coming in separate halves. Despite D'Youville's efforts, the Mavericks capitalized on their opportunities, scoring four times in the first half and adding two more in the second. The match saw D'Youville's goalkeeper make four saves, but Mercy's offensive pressure proved too much to overcome.
The first half began with an early push from the Mavericks, who capitalized with a goal in the 8th minute, followed quickly by another score. Despite the early deficit, D'Youville sought to regroup, but the Mavericks increased their lead with a goal at the 18th minute mark. Alegra Black contributed defensively with a notable save at the 30th minute.
As the half progressed, the Mavericks extended their advantage with a goal in the 34th minute. D'Youville's offense made strides late in the half when Laoise O'Haodha found the back of the net in the 44th minute, reducing the gap. The first half concluded with D'Youville trailing 4-1.
The second half began with D'Youville looking to shift the momentum. Despite an early offside and a foul, the team maintained defensive pressure. However, the Mavericks extended their lead with a goal in the 55th minute. The Mavericks continued to apply pressure, increasing their advantage with a goal in the 69th minute to make it 6-1.
D'Youville responded with a goal by Madayia Simons in the 81st minute, bringing the score to 6-2. Goalkeeper Amanda Kit played a crucial role in the latter stages, making key saves against shots from the Mavericks. The period concluded with D'Youville closing the deficit, but the score remained 6-2 in favor of the Mavericks at the final whistle.
O'Haodha scored one goal and took two shots, contributing to the team's offensive efforts. Simons also added a goal, converting her single shot on target. Kit recorded three saves in the second half, facing a total of 11 shots.
