Box Score SPARKILL, N.Y. – The D'Youville women's lacrosse team took home a 15-13 win over East Coast Conference member St. Thomas Aquinas at Spartan Field Saturday afternoon. Marissa Malvaso and Emily Fischer paced the Saints offensively scoring five and three goals, respectively. Bethany Wolcott and Riley Riedel added in two goals each. Danielle Thompson had a team-high three assists. Brinn Stworzydlak improved to 7-5 on the season with eight saves on 21 shots.
First Quarter Notables
- It was a close one going into the first break, as the Saints held a 4-3 lead at the whistle.
- Leanna Iobbi opened the scoring with a goal at 13:58.
- Malvaso answered back off a pass from Riedel less than two minutes later.
- Sydney Gordon put the Saints in a one-goal lead, adding an unassisted goal at 11:12.
- The Spartans evened the score at 9:51 before Fischer added her own unassisted goal at 8:50.
- Each team added one more goal before the final whistle of the quarter.
Second Quarter Notables
- Back-and-forth again in the second quarter, the Saints held on to a narrow 9-7 lead going into the intermission.
- STAC scored first in the second, putting one past Stworzydlak at 14:05.
- Thompson scored her 12th goal of the season to put the Saints back in the lead at 13:15.
- The Spartans put up three more goals before Malvaso converted a free position shot at 5:31.
- Riedel and Malvaso connected again as the 6-2 midfielder sent a pass to Malvaso at 3:06.
- Riedel added her own goal at 1:12 off a pass from Thompson.
- Tiffany Cristofanelli gave the Saints an extra goal with 41 seconds left in the half.
Third Quarter Notables
- The Saints opened the scoring coming out of the break as Wolcott converted a free position shot at 13:45, putting the Saints up 10-7.
- STAC scored three goals to even the score with four and half minutes left in the quarter.
- Malvaso put the Saints back in the lead at 2:38, scoring an unassisted goal.
Fourth Quarter Notables
- The Saints put up two goals in the beginning of the fourth quarter, putting the Saints up 13-10.
- Olivia Cerbo from St. Thomas Aquinas cut into the Saints lead and keeping the Spartans with two goals with a goal at 9:35.
- Taking advantage of playing up a man, Fischer scored at 5:58 off a pass from Wolcott to put the Saints back up by three goals.
- Malvaso and Thompson connected again at 2:01 as Malvaso snuck one past the Spartan goalie to put the Saints up 15-11.
- The Spartans added two more goals, but it wasn't enough to overtake the Saints, as they walked away with a 15-13 win.
