Baseball Rallies Late to Take Down STAC in Series Finale

Box Score

PAMONA, N.Y. - After taking the first lead in all three games this weekend, the D'Youville baseball team finished the job Saturday afternoon, erasing a late deficit to take down St. Thomas Aquinas, 8-4, at Clover Stadium. The second win of D'Youville's East Coast Conference campaign improves the Saints to 8-15 on the season and 2-7 in league play.

GAME NOTES

Sophomore Ethan Hammond extended his hit streak to 13 games in the top of the third inning with a two-run double that put the Saints ahead 2-0.

STAC (12-15, 6-3 ECC) countered with a run in each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to put the Saints down 3-2.

Still trailing by a run in the top of the eighth inning, sophomore Jeremy Glinski doubled home Hammond and senior George Farid to flip the game and hand the Saints a 4-3 advantage.

Still up by one going into the top of the ninth inning, the Saints' offense plated four important runs to increase their lead to five at 8-3. Farid got the rally going with an RBI single to right field to drive sophomore Alex Dzimian in.

After a pitching change on D'Youville's next at-bat, Hammond laced a single into right field with the bases loaded to drive in two more runs. Two batters later, freshman Alec Boucher tacked on another run with a sacrifice fly to left that brought Farid in to score.

ON THE MOUND

Freshman Rob Stephens got the start in the series finale and tossed six innings for the Saints. Stephens struck out two and allow three earned runs on five hits. Freshman Samuel Worthen (1-0) picked up his first win in D'Youville threads, tossing the final three innings in relief of Stephens. Worthen fanned three and allowed one earned run on five hits.

AT THE PLATE

Three hits days from Hammond (3-for-4, 2 2B, 4 RBI) and Farid (3-for-5, RBI) led the Saints on offense. Glinski (2-for-5, 2B, 2 RBI) also hit safely multiple times for D'Youville.

UP NEXT

The Saints resume ECC play on Friday, April 15 when they play host to the College of Staten Island. First pitch from Lockport High School is slated for 3:30 p.m.
