POMONA, N.Y. - The D'Youville baseball team traveled downstate this weekend to kick off an East Coast Conference weekend series with St. Thomas Aquinas but dropped both games of a doubleheader, 12-4 and 7-3, Friday afternoon. The pair of losses move the Saints to 7-15 on the season and 1-7 in the ECC.
Game One Notes
Sophomore Jeremy Glinski got the Saints' offense going in the top of the second inning with a solo home run. Glinski's first home run of the season was the third of his collegiate career and his first time circling the bases since a solo home run against STAC on May 8, 2021. The Spartans got a run back in the third to tie the game and three more in the fifth inning to grab a 4-1 lead.
Glinski and the Saints were back for more in the top of the sixth inning. The Sloan, N.Y. continued his big game with a two-run triple and later in the frame, Glinski would tie the game when he advanced home on a fielding error by the Spartan shortstop.
After tying the game in the sixth, an eight-run eighth inning for the hosts buried the Saints in game one.
ON THE MOUND
Reigning ECC Pitcher of the Week, freshman Chris AuClair took the mound for the Saints in game one. After picking up a career-high 12 strikeouts last week against Bridgeport, AuClair sent nine batters down on strikes in 7.0 innings of work while surrendering one earned run on six hits.
AT THE PLATE
Glinski (2-for-3, HR, 3B, 3 RBI) and Hammond (2-for-4) each had multi-hit performances for the Saints in game one.
GAME TWO NOTES
Looking to rebound in the nightcap, the Saints once more got on the board first via the long ball. This time, in the top of the fourth inning, freshman Alec Boucher homered to right-center, driving in sophomore Ethan Hammond. Boucher's two-run blast was his second of the season and second this week after going deep at Le Moyne on Tuesday, April 5.
The Spartans responded in the home half of the fourth inning, quickly erasing D'Youville's lead with six runs while tacking on one more in the fifth.
The Saints added one more in the seventh and final inning when Boucher advanced home on a throwing error via the Spartan catcher.
Freshman Harrison Lough got the starting nod in game two and struck out four batters in 3.1 innings pitched. Lough was charged with four earned runs on three hits. Freshman Zach Penner tossed two-plus innings in relief of Lough and struck out a pair of Spartans while surrendering two earned runs on seven hits.
Boucher (2-for-3, HR, 2 RBI) and Hammond (2-for-3, 2B) paced the Saints' offense in game two.
