Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. – The D'Youville women's lacrosse team took away its first win at home for the 2022 season, defeating Fredonia 17-4. Danielle Thompson and Marissa Malvaso led the Saints with four goals apiece. Bethany Wolcott and Paige Cocina each scored three goals, while freshman goalie Brinn Stworzydlak was credited with one save on five shots.
First Quarter Notables
- Sydney Gordon opened the scoring in the first minute of action, burying one to the back of the net at 14:06.
- The Saints got off four quick goals, as Cocina snuck one past the goalie at 11:40. Thompson added three unassisted goals over the next five minutes to extend the Saints' lead to 5-0.
- The Blue Devils were able get one past Stworzydlak at 6:11 to cut into D'Youville's lead.
- D'Youville added two more goals before the first break, as Jillian Bernas and Malvaso connected at 2:08, and Cocina put one to the back of the net at 0:05.
- The Saints led 7-1 going into the first break.
Second Quarter Notables
- Wolcott and Cocina teamed up to start the scoring in the second quarter, as Cocina sent a beautfil pass to Wolcott who snuck it past the goalie at 11:36.
- Cocina then added a goal of her own just over a minute later to extend the lead to 9-1.
- Sara Guariglia from Fredonia was able to get another goal for the Blue Devils, before Wolcott added her second goal of the quarter at 7:30 and put the Saints up 10-2.
- The final whistle of the first half blew, and the Saints led 10-3.
Third Quarter Notables
- Not even one minute into the third quarter, Malvaso sent one to the back of the net, taking it herself and recording her 19th goal of the season 14:07 in the third quarter.
- Tiffany Cristofanelli tallied a goal of her own at 7:53.
- Cocina and Malvaso connected once again at 4:31 to give Malvaso her 20th goal of the season and the Saints the 13-3 lead.
- Tessa Brady cut into the Saints' mercy lead by adding a goal with just under a minute to play in the quarter.
Fourth Quarter Notables
- Malvaso and Cristofanelli connected early in the final 15 minutes of play, giving Malvaso her fourth goal of the game, and 21st goal of the season at 13:24.
- Wolcott, Gordon, and Thompson each added a goal in the final quarter of action to secure the Saints' 17-4 win over the Blue Devils.
