Four Saints Tally Multiple Goals Saturday at Home

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Marissa Malvaso and Paige Cocina paced the Saints Saturday afternoon at Dobson Field, but the D'Youville women's lacrosse team ultimately fell 12-15 to Slippery Rock in front of a crowd of 112. Bethany Wolcott and Sydney Gordon each had two goals in the high-scoring affair, whiel Emily Fischer was credited with one. Freshman goalie Brinn Stworzydlak finished the day with 13 saves.

First Quarter Notables

  • Slippery Rock opened the scoring in the first quarter of the game, sneaking one past Stworzydlak at 14:44.
  • Bethany Wolcott answered right away, tallying a goal of her own just one minute later to even the score.
  • The Saints took the lead at the 9:53 mark as Sydney Gordon soared one to the back of the net.
  • Emily Benham from Slippery Rock added two quick goals to give The Rock a 3-2 lead at the seven-minute mark.
  • Grad-transfers Paige Cocina and Marissa Malvaso connected just under three minutes to even the score, and Malvaso sent a beautiful pass to the front of the net, where Cocina wuickly got the shot off.
  • Rachel Mahoney from SRU put The Rock up 4-3 at 2:10.

Second Quarter Notables

  • The Rock got off three quick goals to extend to a 7-3 lead.
  • Malvaso scored at the 11-minute mark to cut into the lead 4-7.
  • Cocina rocketed another goal to the back of the net at 6:15 before Emily Fischer added another at 4:35 to bring the Saints within two goals.
  • Slippery Rock was able to score twice before the final whistle of the second half, leading 10-6 going into the intermission.

Third Quarter Notables

  • The Saints came out of the break ready to go, as Cocina dumped in a quick goal less than two minutes into action.
  • Slippery Rock fired off three goals before Wolcott and Malvaso added their second goals of the game at 5:07 and 0:30, respectively.
  • Jamie DiCarlo from SRU scored with 10 seconds left in the third quarter to extend The Rock's lead to 14-9.

Fourth Quarter Notables

  • Sydney Gordon was fouled just after the 14-minute mark in the final quarter, and was able to convert on the attempt, putting the Saints within four goals early.
  • Malvaso added two more goals before regulation was up, but the Saints ultimately fell 12-15 to Slippery Rock.
