ERIE, Pa. - The D'Youville baseball team continued road action Sunday afternoon, falling 8-0 to Gannon in non-conference play. Sunday's setback drops the Saints to an even 6-6 on the season.
The Golden Knights (8-3) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the home half of the first inning and tacked on a run each in the third and fourth innings before rounding out the scoring with two more in the fifth.
The Saints threatened to get at least a run back in the bottom of the first. Sophomore Alex Dzimian and senior George Farid each reached safely with base hits. Sophomore Jeremy Glinski reached on fielder's choice but he and Farid were left on base to end the frame.
Despite hitting safely eight times Sunday, D'Youville left two on base again in the second, third, fifth, seventh, and ninth innings for a total of 12 stranded runners in the defeat. Freshman Dillon Crook reached on an infield single in the second and sophomore Ethan Hammond and freshman Alec Boucher each had base hits in the third.
Hammond, Crook, and Dzimian led the Saints at the plate with a pair of hits each.
The Saints open up their home and East coast Conference schedule on Friday, March 25 when they host Queens (N.Y.) to begin three-game series next weekend at Niagara University. First pitch on Friday is set for 3 p.m.
