Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. – Six different Saints tallied a goal in D'Youville's 6-13 loss to Mercyhurst Wednesday evening at Dobson Field. Marissa Malvaso and Danielle Thompson were credited with one goal and one assist each on the night, while Brinn Stworzydlak was credited with 12 saves on 25 shots.
First Quarter Notables
- Mercyhurst opened the scoring in the first quarter, as Maggie Newton snuck one past Stworzydlak at 8:04.
- Danielle Thompson evened the score exactly two minutes later, as she grabbed a groundball off a missed shot and soared the ball to the back of the net.
- The Saints and Lakers went back-and-forth to the end of the first quarter, as the whistle blew and the teams were tied at 1-1.
Second Quarter Notables
- Malvaso secured the draw control at the beginning of the second quarter.
- A foul caused the Saints to turnover the ball, and Mercyhurst let off two quick shots, but Stworzydlak was able to make the big saves to keep the game at 1-1.
- At 12:25, Riley Riedel buried the ball into the back of the net off a pass from Thompson to put the Saints up 2-1.
- The Lakers wasted no time in getting even, as Newton scored her second goal of the game at 11:48.
- Mercyhurst scored five more goals before the whistle blew for halftime.
Third Quarter Notables
- The Lakers came out of the intermission hot, as Marissa Comerate converted a free-position shot at 14:03.
- At 11:01, Sydney Gordon caused a Mercyhurst turnover, and the Saints easily cleared the ball out of their defensive end.
- Malvaso scored off a pass from Tiffany Cristofanelli with 9:31 left in the third quarter to cut into the Lakers' lead.
- The Lakers tallied to more goals, before Gordon scored an unassisted goal at 5:39.
Fourth Quarter Notables
- The Saints upped their defense in the final quarter of the game, allowing just three goals from the visiting Lakers.
- Paige Cocina tallied her ninth goal of the season at the three-minute mark, as Malvaso picked up a ground ball and dumped it off to Cocina in front of the Mercyhurst net.
- Emily Fischer added one final goal for the Saints at 1:10.
