Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. – The D'Youville women's lacrosse team fought Chargers, refs, and weather Saturday afternoon at Dobson Field, but the Saints ultimately fell 10-12 to Dominican on a dreary day in Buffalo. Marissa Malvaso continued to be an offensive threat for the Saints, scoring a team-high four goals for the sixth time this season. Amanda Waliszewski and Jordan Pachla were stellar in the Saints' backline, as the two combined for 11 ground balls and six caused turnovers. Brinn Stworzydlak earned six saves on 18 shots.
First Quarter Notables
- The Saints started off strong, as Tiffany Cristofanelli grabbed the opening draw of the game.
- Malvaso opened the scoring at 14:15 on an unassisted goal to put the Saints on the board first.
- D'Youville won the second draw control of the game, and the Saints and Chargers went back-and-forth over the next few minutes before Malvaso was able to find the back of the net for the second time off an assist from Sydney Gordon, putting the Saints up 2-0.
- Dominican responded shortly after, as Grace DeStasio found the back of the next at 10:20.
- Riley Riedel extended the Saints' lead just 40 seconds later, taking advantage of a free-position shot in the ninth minute to put D'Youville up 3-1.
- The Chargers put up three unanswered goals before the final whistle of the quarter, and the Saints trailed 3-4 in the first break.
Second Quarter Notables
- The Saints came out of the first break ready to roll, as Bethany Wolcott grabbed the opening draw of the second quarter, and the Saints were able to get off a quick shot. Kristinamarie Kaszovitz got her stick in front of the shot, keeping the Saints at bay.
- DeStasio scored again for the Chargers at 12:50 to extend their lead to 5-3.
- The Saints answered back at 9:48, as Malvaso added her third goal of the afternoon off a pass from Wolcott, bringing the Saints within one.
- Malvaso added her fourth goal of the game at 6:20 as Riedel sent a pass in to tie up the score at 5-5.
- Riedel added another assist to her stat line, as Paige Cocina scored at 4:28 to put the Saints in the lead for the first time in the second quarter.
- Dominican answered back two minutes later, as DeStasio picked up the hat trick early in the game.
- The Saints and Chargers were knotted at 6-6 going into the intermission.
Third Quarter Notables
- Caitlin Costello netted a goal just two seconds into the second half to put the Chargers up 7-6.
- D'Youville and Domincan went back-and-forth over the next six minutes before Josie Lettieri from Dominican converted the free position shot to extend their lead to 8-6.
- The Chargers added two unanswered goals to finish out the third quarter, leading the Saints 10-6 going into the final break.
Fourth Quarter Notables
- With rain beginning to pour down, head coach Kate Mayhook and staff lit a fire under the Saints during the final break of the game, and the team came on the field ready to mount the comeback on a blustery afternoon.
- D'Youville opened the scoring at 14:05 as Wolcott grabbed a pass from Malvaso and snuck it past the Chargers' keeper to bring the Saints within three.
- Dominican brought their lead back to four at 12:26 after a D'Youville turnover in the offensive end.
- The Saints didn't let that affect them, bringing them back within three as Gordon and Malvaso connected at 6:34. Malvaso dipped a pass off the Gordon who fired it to the back of the net to bring the score to 8-11, Chargers.
- Cristofanelli and Wolcott added two unanswered goals to bring the Saints within one with less than five minutes to go in the game.
- A miscommunication from the referees costs the Saints a goal late in the game, as Cocina's goal at the four-minute mark was taken away due to too many players on the field for D'Youville.
- DeStasio added the final goal of the game and sealed the win for the Chargers at 2:38.
- Dominican won 12-10.
