Women's Lacrosse Drops Home Finale to Molloy

The D'Youville women's lacrosse team could not overcome an opening 9-0 scoring run by Molloy on Sunday morning, as the Lions topped the Saints, 15-3, in East Coast Conference action at Dobson Field.

The loss shifted D'Youville to 2-7 on the season and 0-4 in the ECC, while Molloy improved to 3-5 overall and 2-1 in league play.

Seven different Lions scored to start the game for Molloy before Amanda Reyes tallied back-to-back goals to put the guests up, 9-0. Junior midfielder Riley Riedel stopped the Molloy run when she found the back of the net at the 5:43 mark of the first half, giving D'Youville its first goal of the day.

Molloy would answer back thanks to Joanna Mauceri, but D'Youville got its second tally when junior midfielder Tiffany Cristofanelli scored with 2:22 remaining in the opening stanza. Amanda Weber closed the first-half scoring with 15 seconds left to send the Lions to the locker room up, 11-2.

Alexa Adduci got the scoring going in the second half for Molloy, as Weber would net two more goals as well before Cristofanelli got her second goal of the game to cut the Lions' lead to 14-3. Brooke DiFede got the last tally of the contest, beating the D'Youville defense with nine seconds remaining on the clock.

Molloy goalkeeper Mary-Kate Sweeney made eight saves to earn the win, while the Saints freshman goalie, Hannah Wilson, suffered the loss after recording four saves.

Notables – The all-time series shifted to 1-0 in favor of Molloy … Sunday was Cristofanelli's third multi-goal contest of the season … Sophomore midfielder Bethany Wolcott has registered a point in eight-straight games, getting an assist on Cristofanelli's first goal … Molloy went 3-for-3 on free-position chances, while D'Youville was 0-for-7 … The Saints dominated the draw control battle, 14-5.

Up Next – The Saints will finish their season on the road with ECC contests on back-to-back days, taking on STAC in an April 24 meeting before heading to Mercy on April 25 for the season finale.
