Baseball Falls in Series Finale to Queens

Box Score

The D'Youville baseball team returned to the diamond on Saturday afternoon to conclude a three-game series with East Coast Conference foe Queens College. The Knights completed the sweep over D'Youville, blanking the Saints, 8-0, after taking the first two games on Friday.

Saturday's setback dropped the Saints to 2-12 on the year with an 0-8 mark in conference play, while the hosts improved to 6-5 overall and 5-4 in ECC play.

After a scoreless first inning, Queens broke the deadlock with an RBI single courtesy of Evan Christopher and in the third, Jayson Rodopoulos extended the Knight's advantage with a base hit to center field, driving in two runs. Queens put the Saints away in the fourth with three more runs, highlighted by an RBI triple to left field from Andrew Smith.

D'Youville was held hitless for the first 5.2 innings by Queen's hurler Liam Pulsipher. Senior second baseman Renato Quinones broke the no-hitter in the sixth inning with a base hit through the right side of the infield. Sophomore right fielder Mateo Santos added another single in the seventh and sophomore catcher Jeremy Glinski picked up D'Youville's final hit of the game with a single down the right field line.

Senior pitcher Nick Jank got the start in the series finale and struck out one and walked one while allowing three earned runs on six hits in 2.1 innings. Sophomore pitcher Kyle Nash came on in relief of Jank and, in his 2.2 innings of work, he was charged with three earned runs on four hits. Sophomore pitcher Jared Glowniak tossed the final three innings on the hill for D'Youville, striking out one while allowing no earned runs on three hits.

Pulsipher went the distance for the Knights and fanned twelve Saints and shutout D'Youville while issuing three hits.

Notables – Santos and sophomore left fielder Josh Battaglia both swiped bases for the Saints. Santos and Battaglia each have two stolen bases on the season.

Up Next – The Saints are off next week as the weekend series with Molloy has been postponed to a later date due to a COVID-19 pause for the Lions' program. D'Youville will hit the field next on Friday, April 23, when they begin a three-game series at Bridgeport.
