Offense Comes to Life as Spartans Fall to Anna Maria

Box Score

Auburndale, FL - The D'Youville baseball team scored double-digit runs on Monday afternoon but lost to the Anna Maria Amcats by the final score of 21-10 in eight innings.

Anna Maria was controlled the game through the first five innings, leading 5-0. They then tacked on six addition runs in the top of the sixth to take an 11-0 lead over D'Youville.

In the bottom of the sixth, D'Youville came to life. Shane Critelli (Camden, NY/Camden) walked and was pinch run for by Logan Lipowski (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East). Josh Battaglia (Rochester, NY/Hiltion) would follow with a walk and the two would move into scoring position on a wild pitch in the next at-bat.

Back-to-back singles from Jeremy Glinski (Sloan, NY/Bishop-Timon St. Jude) and Alex Liem (Dorchester, Ont./Dorchester Secondary) would drive in Lipowski and Battaglia to make the score 2-11. Phil Lange (Lockport, NY/Lockport) would then pinch hit and walk, loading the bases for Justin Varney (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) to drive in Glinski. Liem would then score from third on a passed ball, making it a 4-11 game.

Jared Glowniak (Dunkirk, NY/Dunkirk) would then drive in a run on a single following a Kevin Sanders (Buffalo, NY/City Honors) single. Back-to-back walks to Lipowski and Battaglia would drive in two additional runs for a 7-11 game. A balk and Mateo Santos (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) RBI would bring the Spartans to within just one run at 10-11 through six innings.

Despite getting back to within one run, the Spartans would surrender 10 additional runs in the next two innings to lose 21-10.

Varney led the team with two hits while Battaglia and Lipowski scored two runs each. The top four batters of Battaglia, Santos, Glinski, and Liem each had an RBI with Varney, Glowniak, and Lipowski adding one each as well. In total, the Spartans had nine walks.

Bryce Little (Arcade, NY/Pioneer) made his debut for the season, pitching 5.0 innings and struck out two with three earned runs. Zach Cocking (Batavia, NY/Notre Dame) pitched an inning while Kyle Nash (Ancaster, Ont./Ancaster) saw time as well. Nick Jank (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius) also saw time in relief while Glowniak had a strong outing with 1.1 innings pitched with a strikeout and one earned run.
