D'Youville Earns Big Home Win Over Bradford

Box Score

Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville men's basketball team earned a big home win on Wednesday evening as they defeated the Pitt.-Bradford Panthers by the final score of 90-59.

Bradford jumped out to a five-point lead through just over four minutes of play at 10-5. The Spartans would come back to tie the game before the Panthers then went ahead by five yet again. Following a pair of free throws from Bradford, the Spartans would go on massive run. Over nearly a 10-minute span, D'Youville went on a 21-0 run as they took over the game and led 31-15 lead.

That momentum would continue into the final minutes of the half as the men extended their lead to 22 as they doubled up the Panthers at halftime 43-21.

D'Youville was just as efficient in the second half as they were in the first. Darrius Hartzog (Rochester, NY/Wilson Magnet) hit back-to-back threes to push the men's lead 49-23 just 1:20 into the second. Several minutes later, Hartzog again was on point from long distance as he hit back-to-back threes yet again with the Spartan's lead extending to 32 with 12:52 remaining in regulation.

Down the stretch of the second, Ryan Davis (Darien Center, NY/Alexander), Torree Cheatham (Lockport, NY/Lockport), and Jagdeep Drumgoole (Rochester, NY/Early College) scored seven consecutive baskets for the men to up their lead to 87-50. Trey Boling (Tonawanda, NY/St. Joe's) added a free throw late as the Spartans went on to win their first conference game of the season by the final score 90-59.

"Tonight was the best all-around effort we had all year," said head coach Earl Schunk. "We made a conscious decision to play small because wanted to speed up the game. That decision made our offense and defense better. We will look to do more of this moving forward."

Juan Miguel Rosales (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Village School) led the Spartans with 18 points and 14 rebounds in the victory, with Hartzog adding 16 points. Brian Sharp (Newark, NY/Newark) tallied 12 points as Grant Beyer (Williamsville, NY/St. Joe's) and Drumgoole scored seven points each.

Devon Darrell (Lockport, NY/Lockport) led the team with six assists, adding six points. Will Saunders (Cleveland, OH/Euclid) added four assists with Simeon Heard (Rochester, NY/Charles Finney) lead the team with three steals. Davis scored eight points with Cheatham adding four and Noah Denz (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) grabbing seven boards. Latrell Butler (Olean, NY/Olean) dished out four assists with Jake Funderburk (Amherst, NY/Amherst) and Mike DiPane (Seaford, NY/St. Anthony) each seeing quality minutes.

The next game for the men will come at home this Saturday, January 18 as they host Franciscan at 1:00pm.
