ROCHESTER, N.Y. — D'Youville University (7-17, 7-9 ECC) narrowly fell to Roberts Wesleyan University with a final score of 84-82 on Saturday at the Voller Athletic Center.
The game began with a tightly contested first half as both teams exchanged leads. The Saints started strong with
Maxence Massadila contributing significantly, scoring early with a jumper and layup. The team also capitalized on a turnover from RWU, leading to a three-pointer by
Nathan Andrice, assisted by Massadila, to maintain their momentum. Despite DYU's effective shooting from beyond the arc, including a three-pointer by
LaShard Lowry, Jr., the Redhawks consistently responded, keeping the score close. The half concluded with D'Youville trailing 36–32.
The Saints mounted an impressive comeback in the second half, overcoming an early deficit with a series of strategic plays. Andrice contributed significantly with key layups, including one at 14:02 that brought them within striking distance. A pivotal three-pointer by
Elisha Warren at 13:12 gave D'Youville a narrow lead. Despite trailing, they maintained pressure, highlighted by Lowry, Jr.'s fast-break three-pointer at 10:15, pushing their advantage to five points.
RWU responded with a strong run, briefly regaining the lead, yet D'Youville demonstrated resilience. In the closing moments,
Dawson Matsell hit a last-second three-pointer bringing D'Youville within one point, but the Redhawks held on to secure an 84–82 victory at the buzzer.
Lowry, Jr. led the scoring for D'Youville with 17 points and added two steals. Andrice was efficient from the field, converting 7-of-8 shots and contributing 16 points along with three blocks. Massadila scored 12 points and recorded three rebounds. Matsell collected 10 rebounds and posted two steals.
The Saints will be back at it this Wednesday as they travel to Molloy University for the first round of the 2025 ECC Men's Basketball Tournament. This season marks the first season the Saints will have made the postseason in the Division II era.
