D'Youville Women See Season End in AMCC Semifinals

Box Score

Greensburg, PA - The D'Youville women's soccer team saw their season come to an end on Wednesday afternoon in the AMCC Semifinals as they fell to the #1 Pitt.-Greensburg Bobcats 1-0 in overtime.

D'Youville nearly took the lead in the first two minutes of the game as Isabella Lucania (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder) stormed down the right wing to force a save from the Greensburg goalkeeper. The Bobcats would then begin to take control of the game, generating several corners and long-range shots as they put pressure on the Spartan's defense.

Despite their possession, D'Youville didn't allow many quality scoring opportunities for Greensburg. Each team would hold strong at the half as the game was tied at 0-0.

The Bobcats would continue to pressure the Spartans in the second half, but D'Youville would begin to bring about several chances of their own. Cassie Brooks (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) had a chance on goal off a header in the 69th minute with Kaylee Heschke (Newfane, NY/Newfane) nearly driving home a header in the 83rd minute off a corner.

With both teams trading chances, neither team would be able to find the back of the net as the the game would go into overtime still tied at 0-0.

Under a minute into the overtime period, Jordan Pachla (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) nearly won the game with a shot on goal that was saved by the Greensburg keeper. In the 97th minute, however, the Bobcats would score the game-winner as they headed in a corner kick to win the game 1-0.

The women put forth an incredible defensive effort, allowing just six shots on goal in the game. Goalkeeper Laurie Poeller (Akron, NY/Akron) made three saves while her defense of Brooks, Lucania, Dominique Riforgiato (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia), Anna Hayes (Hamburg, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy), and Sarah Milczarski (Newfane, NY/Newfane) all played exceptionally well on the back line. In the midfield, Heschke, Maggie Leeds (Lockport, NY/Akron), and Marina Campbell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Catholic) were key in limiting quality scoring chances from the Bobcats.

Makenna Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack), Brittany Cristofanelli (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Catholic), and Pachla had strong efforts up front in the game. Lizzie Priest (Fairport, NY/Fairport), Gabrielle Czech (Alden, NY/Alden), Francesca Kobee (North Tonawanda, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy), Katelyn Eigenbrod (Arcade, NY/Pioneer), and Rachel McMahan (Grand Island, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) all played well in the final game of the season.
