Breakout Performance Leeds D'Youville to Continued Undefeated Conference Run

Box Score

Buffalo, NY – The D'Youville women's soccer team remained undefeated in conference play with another shutout as they defeated the Pitt.-Greensburg Bobcats Saturday afternoon by the final score of 2-0.

There were only three shots between the two teams in the game through the first 30 minutes of the game. The game suddenly broke open in the 31st minute with a ball from Margret Leeds (Lockport, NY/Akron) that found Jamiliah McBryde (Buffalo, NY/Erie CC) down the left side. McBryde then hit a sliding shot over the Greenburg's keeper's head into the goal to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead.

Only two additional shots would be recorded in the second half with both coming off the feet of D'Youville players. The most threatening chance for the Spartans came in the 41st minute at Victoria Mayer (Fairport, NY/Fairport) had a shot hit the post that nearly doubled the team's lead. The next four minutes would pass and the Spartans would go into the half leading 1-0.

Not much time had passed in the second half before D'Youville tallied an additional goal onto their lead. A Bobcats foul led to a free kick for the Spartans on the left sideline just outside the box.

The right footed Kaylee Heschke (Newfane, NY/Newfane) and the left footed Cassandra Brooks (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) stepped up to the ball with the in-swinging Brooks being the one to take the kick. Her ball into the box found the head of Leeds for her first career goal, giving the Spartans a 2-0 lead in the 50th minute.

Both teams stepped it up offensively through the remainder of the second half. The shot totals went up for each team, but no goals would come of it as D'Youville would go on to defeat Greensburg by the final score of 2-0.

Leeds had a breakthrough game in her young career, scoring and assisting on her first career goals. She led the team with five shots and two shots on goal. McBryde and Katelyn Eigenbrod (Arcade, NY/Pioneer) each tallied two shots with Brittany Cristofanelli (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) and Mayer each having a shot.

The D'Youville defense continued to dominate the conference with their third consecutive shutout. Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) made five saves as her defense of Isabella Lucania (Webster, NY/Webster-Schroeder), Dominique Riforgiato (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia), Magan Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack), Anna Hayes (Hamburg, NY/Mt. St. Mary's Academy), and Cassandra Brooks (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) all were solid.

D'Youville will next play this Tuesday, October 9 as they host the Hilbert Hawks at 5:00pm.
