Box Score Fredonia, NY – The D'Youville women's soccer team was shutout in their first road game of the season by the Fredonia Blue Devils 1-0.
A defense battle took place throughout the first half between both sides. Fredonia recorded every shot in the first half, tallying nine in total. Goalkeeper Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) made four saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless. After 45 minutes, the game was tied at 0-0.
D'Youville came out in the second half and began taking it to Fredonia. After the Blue Devils recorded the first shot of the half, the Spartans took five shots and four corner kicks, keeping pressure on the Fredonia defense. However Fredonia came back down the field to break the scoreless tie in the 66th minute to make it 1-0.
In the final four minutes, both Makenna Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack) and Brittany Cristofanelli (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) each had a shot on goal that forced the Fredonia keeper to make a save, however neither shot found the back of the net and the Blue Devils held on to win by the final of 1-0.
Cassandra Brooks (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) led the team with three shots, all of which were on goal. Six other players recorded at least a shot as the team totaled 10 shots and seven shots on goal. In goal, Dulniak made five saves on six shots in the game.
The women will play their second game of the weekend at Fredonia tomorrow, September 9 as they play Oswego State at 1:30pm.
