Women's Lacrosse Shows Promise with Season High Scoring Output

Buffalo, NY – The D'Youville women's lacrosse team had a historic evening on Wednesday, reaching their program high in scoring as they lost to the Alfred University Saxons by the final score of 24-14.

Alfred University started out by gaining a 3-0 lead on the Spartans before Jillian Golding (Lockport, NY/Lockport) scored a pair of goals to pull them to within one. With just over 10 minutes gone by in the first half, Amelia Gajewski (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) tied the game at 4-4. D'Youville then took their first lead of the game when Golding scored her fourth goal of the game off a pass from Julie Fleming (Tonawanda, NY/Mt. St. Mary's Academy) to make it 5-4.

The Spartans continued to keep pace with the Saxons as they trailed by one at 8-7 with 10:26 left in the first half. Alfred University would then increasing their offensive output by outscoring D'Youville 6-2 in the final 10-minutes of the half, taking a 14-9 lead into halftime.

Michaela McMahon (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) would close the gap to four as she scored her first goal of the game to open up the second half. However Alfred University would go on to score eight of the next nine goals to take a 22-11 lead. In the final four minutes of the game, Cassidy Tripi (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) scored her first career goal off an assist from Golding to cap off the team's historic scoring night as the Spartans fell to the Saxons 24-14.

D'Youville's offense was driven by Golding throughout the night as she scored a career high eight goals with three assists for 11 total points. She tallied a team high 10 shots and eight draw controls. Paige Robinson (Kenmore, NY/Mt. St. Mary's Academy) added three points with two goals and an assist to go with her team high four ground balls.

Gajewski contributed one goal and an assist with three ground balls, with McMahon scoring a pair of goals. Tripi had a pair of ground balls and four draw controls to go with her first career goal.

The women will conclude their season with an AMCC showcase featuring Hilbert, Medaille and Franciscan on May 5-7. The times and locations are yet to be determined.
