Box Score Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville women's soccer team suffered a loss in their first home conference game of the season Tuesday afternoon to the Penn State-Behrend Lions by the final score of 3-0.
Behrend had the advantage on attack in the first 22 minutes of play, outshooting the Spartans 3-0. In the 25th minute, Kiernan Johnson (Cherry Valley, IL/Keith School) nearly gave D'Youville the lead after she hit the crossbar on a free kick. The Lions continued to put a lot of shots on the Spartan defense until they finally broke through.
In the 35th minute Penn State scored their first goal of the game to take a 1-0 advantage in the game. Neither team would find the back of the net for the remainder of the half and the Lions would go into halftime with the 1-0 lead.
As the second half went on, Behrend had several chances to extend their lead. In the 70th minute the Lions hit the post to nearly take a 2-0 lead, but they were able to double their lead just three minutes later. Then in the 78th minute Penn State scored their third goal of the game to put it away and win the game 3-0.
Terra Juda (North Tonawanda, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield), Magan Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack) and Johnson each accounted for the D'Youville shots in the game. Marina Campbell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Catholic) earned the start in goal, making three saves in 45 minutes of action.
D'Youville will travel to Franciscan on Saturday, October 1st to play the Barons at 1pm.
