Box Score Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville women's soccer team played a hard-fought game Saturday afternoon as they drew against the visiting Houghton Highlanders 0-0 after double overtime.
Sophomore goalkeeper Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) was under fire just four minutes into the first half, making her first save of the game. Houghton, however, would keep up the pressure as they forced the Spartan keeper to make three more saves over the next 14 minutes.
D'Youville would then take some chances of their own with shots coming from Ariel Wood (Nunda, NY/Keshequa), Magan Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack) and Kiernan Johnson (Cherry Valley, IL/Keith School). Both teams were locked in a defensive battle as no shots were taken in the final 10 minutes of the half and the two teams went into the locker-rooms tied at zero.
The second half began and neither team was granted a great scoring chance to end the tie. Nearing the end regulation, Dulniak was forced to make three saves in three minutes to keep her team in the game. Those would be the final three shots of the half as the teams went into overtime tied at zero.
Shots were hard to come by in the first OT as Rachel Hermanski (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) had the best opportunity for the Sparatns but missed just wide. The two teams combined for only three shots, none on goal, as the game moved to it's second overtime.
Houghton was able to find an offensive groove in the second OT, outshooting D'Youville 4-1. Dulniak kept the game scoreless with a pair of saves and the game ended with neither team putting a goal on the scoreboard and the final score of 0-0.
Dulniak had her busiest day of the young season, making 13 saves. D'Youville's back four of Breanne Nelson (Caledonia, NY/Caledonia Mumford), Jenna Tomizzi (Buffalo, NY/Sacred Heart Academy), Kailee Juzdowski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) and Terra Juda (North Tonawanda, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) were all fantastic once again to increase the team's shutout streak to four games.
On offense, Magee had two shots in the game only to trail Johnson's three. The two combined for four shots on goal.
The women will have a few days off until their host their third game of this current four-game homestand on Wednesday, September 14th as they host Brockport at 5pm at Dobson Field.
