Lewiston, NY – The D'Youville baseball team was swept Saturday afternoon by the Alfred State Pioneers at Niagara University by the final scores of 16-2 and 10-0.

Alfred State took a three run in the top of the first inning, with the Spartans responding in the bottom of the second. Travis Macrides (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) led off the bottom of the inning with a double. Two batters later, Josh Hammer (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) doubled to bring home Macrides and bring the game to 3-1.

The Pioneers would score runs in each of the next five innings, with D'Youville getting a run back in the bottom of the sixth. Hammer singled up the middle to lead off the inning, then moving to second with a Louis Reynolds (Batavia, NY/Sweet Home) walk and then third on a Matt Critelli (Camden, NY/Camden) fly-out. In the next at-bat, Khaled Numan-Ali (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) drove in Hammer on a fielder's choice.

The Spartan's deficit was too much to overcome as they would lose game one by the final score of 16-2.

Macrides and Hammer led the team with two hits each in the game. Kevin Kabacinski (Buffalo, NY/St. Joe's) picked up the loss in 4.2 innings. Senior Brian Grabiec (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) pitched 1.1 innings of relief, striking out three.

Game two saw Alfred State get on the board in the first inning with a 1-0 lead. The Pioneers would open the game up in the bottom of the fourth inning, adding on four runs and would go on to win the game by the final score of 10-0.

Dan Fox (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) and Will Kennedy (Fort Lauderdale, FL/South Plantation) each picked up their first hits of the season in the game. Each saw time on the right side of the infield as Fox played at first base for the first time this season and Kennedy played at second.

The two teams will face off again tomorrow, Sunday April 17^th at Alfred State. The doubleheader will begin at 1pm with game two scheduled to start at 4pm.
