Box Score Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville women's soccer team lost their first game of their four-game home stand to the Mount Aloysius Mounties by the final score of 2-0.
Mount Aloysius was the first team to get on the scoreboard in the game. Following the first five minutes of play where the Spartans controlled possession, the Mounties pounced on their first goal scoring opportunity at the 5:25 mark with a goal off a header, giving them a 1-0 lead.
The Mounties would continue their offensive attack as they added a second goal in 10 minutes, doubling their score to 2-0. The remaining half an hour would result in only one more shot on goal from Mount Aloysius and the half would end with the score of 2-0.
D'Youville came out in the second half and immediately threatened to cut the Mounties' lead in half. Brittany Cristofanelli (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) had a challenging shot just :11 seconds into the second half, but it went just wide. In a matter of eight minutes, D'Youville had shots on goal from Emily Carias (Eden, NY/Eden), Rachel Hermanski (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) and Magan Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack) that caused Mount Aloysius' goalkeeper to make several tough saves.
Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) came up with several big saves down the stretch for the Spartans to keep them in the game. With under five minutes to go in regulation, both Marina Campbell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Catholic) and Breanne Nelson (Caledonia, NY/Caledonia-Mumford) each had shots on goal but were unable to make a change to the score as the Mounties defeated the Spartans 2-0.
Cristofanelli led the offense with three shots in the game from her central midfield position. In goal, Dulniak made five saves in her second game back from injury.
The women will have a week off until their next game as they host the Pitt.-Greensburg Bobcats on Saturday, October 15th at 2pm.
