Box Score Bradford, PA - The D'Youville women's soccer team ended their 2016 season on Tuesday afternoon by tying the Pitt.-Bradford Panthers 1-1 in double overtime.
D'Youville came out and were knocking on the door early in the first half. Rebecca Sliwowski (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) had the first shot on goal of the game, followed by a shot from Kiernan Johnson (Cherry Valley, IL/Keith School) that missed just wide. The Spartans added two offside calls as they were trying to grab the lead early and pushing the Panther's back line.
Bradford would hold firm and then begin to take it at D'Youville. Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) made back-to-back saves in a matter of a minute and a half to keep the game scoreless. The Panthers got several further shots off but could not find the back of the net and the first half would end tied 0-0.
The two teams traded chances in the first five minutes of the first half, but to no avail for either team. In 59th and 60th minutes, Terra Juda (North Tonawanda, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) was on the doorstep of giving D'Youville the lead by first hitting the post, then a team save by Bradford and then sending a shot wide. However, Bradford held firm and then took the lead in the 72nd minute.
The Spartans had a foul in the box that led to a Bradford penalty kick. The Panther player stepped up and was able to beat Dulniak and gave the team a 1-0 lead. Following the PK, D'Youville revamped their offensive efforts. The team pressured the Panther defense, going offsides twice followed by a shot from Rachel Hermanski (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale).
With Just under 10 minutes remaining in the game, D'Youville earned their own penalty kick. As she had done in the previous two games, Juda stepped to the dot and beat the keeper to tie the game at one. The Spartans would have two more chances in the final minutes, but the final whistle blew and the game headed into overtime.
D'Youville continued their offensive momentum into the first OT, with Emily Carias (Eden, NY/Eden) and Hermanski getting shots on goal, but both were unable to beat the keeper. The first OT ended still tied at zero.
The Spartans again were aggressive on offense as they were offsides twice more in the first five minutes. The defense was this time challenged in the second OT but they stepped up by blocking a shot and Dulniak made a big save. The second OT would end without a goal and the game would end in a 0-0 tie.
Dulniak made seven saves over the 110 minutes of action, allowing only the penalty kick goal. On offense, Hermanski and Juda led the way. Each recorded four shots, with Hermanski leading the team with three shots on goal. On defense, Marina Campbell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Catholic), Emily Ward (Leonardsville, NY/Mount Markham) and Breanne Nelson (Caledonia, NY/Caledonia-Mumford) and Magan Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack) were outstanding once again.
