Box Score Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville women's soccer team and their seniors went out at top in their final home game of the season as they defeated the visiting Penn State-Altoona Lions 3-0.
The Spartan's offense was very aggressive early in the game. Rachel Hermanski (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) forced the Lion's goalkeeper to make a save early on to keep the game scoreless. D'Youville earned several corners in the first half an hour of action and they would prove to be trouble for Altoona.
In the 30th minute, Kiernan Johnson (Cherry Valley, IL/Keith School) took her second corner of the game and dropped it into the box there it found the foot of senior Terra Juda (North Tonawanda, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) and she buried it for the 1-0 advantage. Just two minutes later, Juda would strike yet again on another corner kick.
Magan Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack) lined up for a corner and put it into the box where it again found Juda for her second game of the game and third in two games. The first half went on after Juda's pair of quick goals and the halftime horn sounded with D'Youville up over the Lions 2-0.
D'Youville didn't let up in the second half as they continued to provide problems for Altoona. In the 69h minute, a D'Youville player was taken down in the box for a penalty kick. As she did in the previous game, Juda stepped to the dot and buried it to the left side, scoring her third goal of the game and giving the team a 3-0 lead.
Seniors Kailee Juzdowski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) and Emily Ward (Leonardsville, NY/Mount Markham) as well as junior Breanne Nelson (Caledona, NY/Caledonia-Mumford), Magee and freshman Marina Campbell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) were all exceptional on defense in shutting down the Lions all game. In the final moments of the game, the team stepped up to another level and completed the shutout, winning 3-0.
Juda and Hermanski were great on offense all game. Moving up to forward for their final home game, the two combined for 11 shots, eight on goal. Juda scored all three of the team's goals. Fellow senior Emily Carias (Eden, NY/Eden) added two shots as she played outstanding in the midfield along with Jami Cammilleri (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena).
Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) posted her seventh shutout of the season with the help of her outstanding defense. Her seven shutouts lead the conference.
D'Youville will conclude their 2016 season on Tuesday, October 25th at Pitt.-Bradford. The game will begin at 1pm.
