Box Score Brockport, NY – The D'Youville women's soccer team played their fifth game in nine days on Monday evening, this time losing to the Brockport Golden Eagles by the final score of 3-1.
Starting in the 9th minute, the Spartans offense threatened the Golden Eagles defense with 4 shots in 2 minutes. Rebecca Alvira (Buffalo, NY/Mount Mercy Academy) started off with a blocked shot. Then, Melissa LaVere (Clarence, NY/Williamsville East), Jami Cammilleri (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) and Rachel Hermanski (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) all forced the Brockport goalie to make a save, but none would find their way to the back netting.
In the 28th minute, despite being outshot, Brockport would break the zeros on the scoreboard. The Golden Eagles took advantage of a foul in the box and scored on a penalty kick to give them the 1-0 lead.
However, ten minutes later the Spartans would even the score back up. Rachel Hermanski took a pass from Melissa LaVere on a free kick and shot it from the right side of the goal and tied the game at 1. The half would end with the same score of 1-1 all.
The second half was all Golden Eagles, scoring goals in the 57th and 77th minutes, winning the game by the final score of 3-1.
Melissa LaVere led the team in shots with 4, while Hermanski and LaVere tied with 2 shots on goal each. Hermanski had the lone goal for the Spartans, with the assist going to Melissa. By the end of the game, Brockport overtook the Spartans for the shot total lead with 14 to D'Youville's 12. The Golden Eagles also held the corner kick advantage 5-1. Freshman Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) made 7 saves in the game in her 6th appearance of her young career.
The next game for the women comes on Saturday against the Mount Aloysius Mounties in their first conference game of the season.
