Box Score Buffalo, NY – The D'Youville women's soccer team was handed their first loss of the season Tuesday evening by the Oswego State Lakers by the final score of 3-0.
D'Youville came out of the game and put on an aggressive offensive performance. Within the first 4 minutes of play, freshman Magan Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack) had two shots on goal and Kiernan Johnson (Cherry Valley, IL/Keith School) had accounted for two corner kicks with no shots from the Oswego State registered.
After 15 minutes of play, the Lakers would tally their first shot on goal, which was saved by freshman Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga). Oswego State began to increase the offensive pressure and eventually put the first goal on the board. In the 29th minute following a corner, the ball popped out to the top of the box and the Oswego State player put the ball off the crossbar and down into the goal, giving the Lakers a 1-0 lead.
The first half would end 15 minutes later with the Lakers up on the Spartans 1-0. Just a minute and a half after the second half began; the Lakers would double their lead. Inside the box, the Oswego player headed the ball over the D'Youville defender to a teammate and the player then beat the goalie one-on-one.
In the final 10 minutes of the half, Oswego would add to their lead on a shot from the top of the box to make the score 3-0. Throughout the half, D'Youville would attempt to get on the board to no avail. Rebecca Alvira (Buffalo, NY/Mount Mercy Academy), Terra Juda (North Tonawanda, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) and Nicole LaVere (Clarence, NY/Williamsville East) would all register shots but none would find the back of the next.
The final score would be 3-0, will Dulniak picking up her first loss of the season in goal. Juda led the team in shots with 4 and shots on goal with 3. Magan Magee had 2 shots on goal. Senior Lauren Walsh (Kenmore, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy) saw her first action of the season in the game.
D'Youville won't have to wait long to get another chance to start a winning streak as they will host Buffalo State on Thursday, September 17th at 7pm.
